Dr. Theodore J. Chamberlain
Named Dean of Students

Dr. Theodore J. Chamberlain

Dr. Theodore J. Chamberlain, who has served as interim Dean of Students since January 2005, was named permanent Dean of Students in June 2005.

"Dr. Chamberlain is a veteran Student Affairs professional," commented President Quigley on the appointment. "All of us at Curry are committed to pursuing a first-class living and learning environment. Dr. Chamberlain’s leadership will help us come closer to achieving that continuing goal."

Dr. Chamberlain served from 1978 until 2004 as the Vice President for Student Development and as Associate Professor of Counseling Psychology at Eastern University in St. Davids, PA. Dr. Chamberlain’s B.A. is from Gordon College, his M.A. is from the Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary and both his M.Ed. and ED.D. are from Boston College.

"I am extremely pleased to begin this academic year as the Dean of Students of Curry College," said Dean Chamberlain. "Having been a chief student affairs officer for 25 years, I am aware of how very important a quality student life program is to a residential college that truly values student learning.

"My staff - which includes the offices of Residence Life, Student Activities, Public Safety, and the Counseling and Health Centers - and I look forward to working with our students. Together, we can continue to make student life at Curry a dynamic experience."

Motor Vehicle Restriction in Effect for First-year Residential Students

Along with the continued growth in the student body comes a few growing pains; one of which is parking. A new policy is in place for this year that will prohibit first-year residential students from having cars on campus. On campus parking privileges are now granted only for upper-class students. Transfer students who have completed one year of study may have a car.

This was implemented not only to alleviate parking issues, but to enhance campus life by keeping students on campus to take full advantage of the campus experience. Curry’s new parking policy reflects a commitment to wanting first year-students to become truly engaged in and contribute to the academic and community life of the college.

In addition to increased student activities offerings, the Curry shuttle service has been increased considerably. Additional shuttles have been added to help students get around campus easily. Shuttle service is also provided to the South Shore Plaza, Faneuil Hall and the Quincy Adams T- Station. A new route to Cobbs Corner in Canton, which has groceries, dining and shopping, has also been added. The Curry shuttle and the accessibility to public transportation will allow students to get wherever they need to go.
