Lifelong Milton resident James M. Sullivan was awarded with an honorary doctorate of Business Administration from Curry College at its 2005 Commencement Ceremony in recognition of and gratitude for a decade of outstanding service and leadership on Curry’s governing board.
Curry College President Kenneth K. Quigley, Jr. explained the selection of Mr. James M. Sullivan for an Honorary Degree as follows:

"Jim’s vision, passion and commitment to the education of our students and to the working conditions of the College’s faculty and staff have been as consistent as his philanthropy in support of our mission. It is not possible to adequately describe the role that Jim Sullivan has had in the great success of Curry College over the past decade. He has spent nine of the past ten years as the Vice Chairman or Chairman of our Board of Trustees the last three as Chairman. His energy and his commitment to strategic growth at our institution have made an impact on the lives of literally thousands.
Curry College celebrates and recognizes - with deep appreciation - the many contributions that Jim Sullivan, his wife Diane, and the Sullivan family have made to Curry College and to higher education. We are pleased to now recognize Jim Sullivan as Dr. James M. Sullivan."

A longtime Milton resident and successful member of the local business community, Mr. Sullivan was sought after by the Curry College administration to assist in improving the College’s financial strength and advancing the College’s mission.
Mr. Sullivan was appointed to the Curry College Board of Trustees in 1995 and assumed the role of Chairman of the Board in 2002.
During the past decade of Mr. Sullivan’s service to Curry, the College has grown and taken on a new vitality. Student enrollments have doubled. Facility investments in residence halls, academic spaces, and athletic facilities have improved the physical infrastructure to create a more dynamic living and learning campus environment. Academic initiatives have resulted in an increase in the size of both the full-time and adjunct faculty and the addition of undergraduate and graduate programs, including the recently launched Residential Property Management and MBA programs.

Mr. Sullivan has played an instrumental role in strengthening the financial condition of the College and acquiring the resources needed to continue its remarkable story of growth and success. The College’s Annual Fund has more than doubled in the value of philanthropic support from trustees, alumni, parents, friends and corporations and foundations. The endowment has grown significantly, the campus value has increased and the College earned a Wall Street Standard & Poor’s Investment Grade Rating.
Mr. Sullivan has demonstrated his own deep level of caring and commitment to the College and its community, and his board leadership continues to attract many dedicated and talented individuals who similarly care deeply about the success of Curry College.
Mr. Sullivan is an active member of the Wollaston Country Club, and continues to reside in Milton with his wife Diane, whose own contribution and support to the Curry College community is notable.
