“Existing MBA Programs everywhere are revising curriculum to catch up with the new business models... we didn’t have to tear down something that was outdated.”

Dr. Gail Arch, director of the new Curry College MBA Program, arrived at Curry’s Milton Campus in July 2005. Dr. Arch comes to Curry from Otterbein College - an institution of similar size to Curry located in a suburb of Columbus, Ohio - where she was a Professor of International Business and the founding director of Otterbein’s MBA Program.

"The challenge of building a new, entrepreneurial venture was enormously exciting," recalls Dr. Arch. "Our success in attracting students in a very competitive marketplace was due to a multi-pronged approach to curriculum, scheduling, service and marketing, as well as the commitment of faculty, administration and community stakeholders."

A Massachusetts native, Dr. Arch was compelled to come to Curry because she saw a need that matched her skill set and describes returning to the Bay State like ’coming home.’

"I was born in Boston, spent my early childhood years in Quincy, and attended Wheaton College in Norton as an undergrad. I’m delighted to be back in Massachusetts as the inaugural director of the Curry College MBA Program."

Dr. Arch received a master’s degree from The Ohio State University, and a Ph.D. in Labor and Human Resources from Ohio State’s Fisher College of Business. She has authored numerous publications and has been a frequent presenter at national and international business conferences.

At Otterbein, Dr. Arch created an MBA with a specific market niche for working professionals, and looks forward to serving that population here at Curry. She understands the energy, hard work and commitment it takes to shape, launch and manage a new program.

"The faculty, with insight from the Management Advisory Council, wrote a fabulous, state-of-the-art curriculum with a focus on ethics and leadership," praises Dr. Arch. "They had a chance to build the curriculum from the best of the best current practices. Existing MBA programs everywhere are in the process of revising curriculum to catch up with the new business models. Curry was in a wonderful position where we didn’t have to tear something down that was outdated.

"Business curriculum is evolutionary. We’ll only have a window of about five years to capitalize on this curriculum, and with the guidance of the Management Advisory Council, cycle through a new development phase to continue to roll out content that remains fresh and relevant."

The Curry College MBA Program launched on August 27, 2005 with an orientation session for the first cohort in Milton.  Thirty-four students started in the first cohort, exceeding the college’s original goal of 20-25 students.  Applications are currently being accepted for the Worcester and Plymouth cohorts scheduled to begin in January 2006.

The launch of the Curry College MBA program has been featured in a number of publications this year including the Boston Business Journal, The Patriot Ledger, and Banker and Tradesman’s special section "Educating the Industry."
