TO THE HOLLYWOOD HILLS

The Premiere of HOLLYWOOD PRODUCTIONS: UPCLOSE

of animation or other cutting-edge technologies, like the virtual set technology used by Mark Biase '83 at The Production Group, would open up a whole new range of possibilities for graduates.

"As we grow, our emphasis will be on providing cutting edge software. We offer an Avid system in one of our edit suites, but a larger lab will help accommodate more students. To that end, we are piecing together the financial puzzle to fund a dedicated multimedia computer lab where high-end video and animation software can be taught and mastered.

"Thanks to the philanthropic gift provided by the Hirsh family to establish the Hirsh Communication Center in 2001, we have the right hardware. We're ahead of most of the colleges in New England in terms of equip - ment. Some of our digital equipment is newer than Boston network affiliates have. I know one student recently hired at a local station who said the equipment listed on her resume, and the amount of experience she had on that equipment, was the main reason she got the job."

"At many other schools, students don't get on equipment until senior year. The class sizes at Curry are small and our students have a chance to start using the equipment as freshman. Their skill set is so much better with four years of hands-on experience. Curry graduates can compete successfully against graduates of any of the large and well-known communication colleges.

"Curry students have one-on-one attention, considerable hands-on experience, a growing alumni network at the high end of the business in Hollywood, and a couple of dozen production people in Hollywood who have Curry on their radar screen. Their opportunities are unlimited."
