U Network Broadcasts Curry Shows

The University Network, a TV network that judges and airs pr ograms from TV/Film schools across the country, is now airing two programs produced by Curry TV students in the Hirsh Communication Center.

One program is Pardon Our Couch, a debate show. Pardon Our Couch, a takeoff of a popular show on ESPN called Pardon the Interruption, is hosted by Curry junior Tyler Pyburn and senior Natalie Bekhit. A topic is identified and the hosts debate the issue with a countdown clock on screen. When the clock hits zero, the hosts stop whatever they're saying and move on to another topic. An on-screen graphic displays all of the topics of the show, so viewers will know what else is coming up.

The other program is All the Gorgeous People, a soap opera now completing its third edition. This ongoing soap opera began two years ago under the direction of Curry TV student Unique Miller '03, now a full-time ENG Producer at WCVB-TV, the ABC affiliate in Boston. Students who saw the soap opera on CC8, the campus television station, wanted to do another installment and the popular program, a spoof with a lot of romance, comedy and murder, took off from there. U Network is airing the second edition; Curry TV students are now editing the third edition.

The U Network airs on more than 45 campuses nationwide. The network reaches about 6 million viewers and is growing; their plans to launch a video on demand channel with the Comcast cable network has the potential for the Curry TV shows to reach about 15 million viewers!
