A WORD
from the President

Kenneth K. Quigley, Jr.

Curry College continues to benefit from the advocacy, the philanthropy, and the service of constituents and friends throughout our community, to whom we are grateful.

We are thankful for the efforts of Congressman Stephen F. Lynch, Hon. ’05 in securing a $500,000 earmark appropriation for Curry in the recently passed Transportation Bill. We value the countless contributions made over the years by Senator Edward M. Kennedy, 2005 recipient of AICUM’s Lifetime Achievement Award, in support of higher education. We appreciate the time of Jan Miller, President and CEO, and Robert Glassman, Chairman, of Wainwright Bank and Trust Co., who shared their wisdom with our students at the inaugural MBA Distinguished Executive Lecture.

Our thanks also go to the newest members of the Chairman’s Circle (Follett Bookstores and the Yawkey Foundation) and the President’s Circle (Jenna and Andy Koines) and everyone in our community who contributed to the FY06 Annual Fund which yielded a 28% increase in overall participation and a 20% increase in Alumni participation. With a primary focus on fundraising, the 15 members of the recently formed National Alumni Council chaired by Kevan Joyce ’90 are looking forward to maintaining the momentum in the FY07 Annual Fund campaign.

Academic momentum also continues to develop. This past year, we enhanced our undergraduate offerings with a 20th major in the field of Graphic Design and added a Corporate and Business Technology certificate to our Continuing Education programs.

We graduated nearly 700 students at Commencement, welcoming them and State Treasurer Timothy P. Cahill, Hon. ’06 to our Alumni community.

Faculty recently led thirty-six students on new study abroad adventures. Dr. Gail Arch traveled with Management students on a nine-day trip to Berlin and Prague for the course Economics, Politics and Culture in the New Europe, while Dean Fedo and Professors Wang, Caldwell, Tenofsky and Hartenian traveled with Nursing and Politics and History students for the courses Contemporary Topics in Nursing: The China Experience, and China: Tradition and Change.

Most significantly, through our latest facility project, we have established an Academic and Performance Center on the Academic Quadrangle. In addition to state-of-the-art classrooms, faculty office suites, and break-out facilities, this beautiful new building will feature a multi-purpose auditorium/theatre to be named in honor of Oscar and Frances Keith in recognition of a generous gift in support of the project from John W. Keith and Shelley I. Hoon.

We hope you enjoy reading about these accomplishments and more in the Summer 2006 edition of Curry Magazine, and plan to visit us on campus soon!
