Curry
couples
In the Fall 2003 edition of Curry Magazine, we invited alums who
met at Curry and ultimately married their college sweetheart to
share with us their story and update us on what's going on in their
lives today.
We heard from a number of alums who came to Curry and fell in love
with the College and each other. Who knows which current students'
hearts Cupid's arrow will strike and make the next Curry Couple?
We hope reading these Curry Couples notes will warm your heart!
Carol (Kriss) '60 and Donald
Buck '60 were married in '61. They have three grown children
and five grandchildren with another on the way in May. The grandchildren's
ages range from 19 months to 14 years. Carol is a Bridge instructor.
Before retiring, Don was the Executive VP of Video Services Corporation,
President of Atlantic Satellite Communication, President of Waterfront
Communication and President of Audio Plus Video International.
Nancy (Hungeford) '74 and Donald
Mitchell '71 celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary June
15. Nancy's fondest memory of Curry is moving-in day of her freshman
year. Class President Donald helped her move all her boxes in and
ended up inviting her to Homecoming. The rest is history! They have
two children, Nicholas, 22 and Katie, 20.
Patricia (Hannigan) '81 and David
Foster '79 have been married since 1982 and now reside in
York, ME. They have three children; Stuart, 18, who is a freshman
at Bates College; Emily, 16, who is a junior at York High School;
and Margaret, 10. David has been an elementary school principal
in the state of Maine for 20 years. Currently he is principal at
Horace Mitchell Primary School in Kittery Point, ME and has been
there for 14 years. Pat is a stay at home mom and a substitute teacher
in the York School District.
Jill (Sakey) '85 and Thomas
Karanian '85 Thomas writes,"I not only found my sweetheart
at Curry College but also my best friend. My wife and I are Curry
grads of 1985. In September 1981 at 2:30 am, there was a fire alarm
in Lombard Hall. While I was outside waiting to be cleared to be
able to go back to bed, I started talking to this very attractive
woman with the cutest pajamas. We started taking and before you
knew it, the sun was coming up and it was time to get ready for
class. By our senior year, we were more than best friends, we were
doing everything together. Even though we were going in separate
directions after college, we knew we would be together forever.
In October 1988, we were married. We currently reside in Bedford,
MA with our three kids: two girls, 11 and 14, and a boy who's 4.
I am a successful senior manager in the software technology industry
and my wife has and RN and is a very successful homemaker. One of
the main reasons in our success as a married couple is a strong
friendship and experiences we had at Curry College together."
Matthew, Danielle, Griffin and Rebecca Hotz Danielle
(Beckwith) '87 and Matthew Hotz
'89 Danielle writes,"Matthew was a director of one of the departments
at WMLN and I was the Station Manager. Our paths crossed several
times before we actually dated. We literally bumped into each other
while he was walking out of the station and I was walking in. Something
happened as we passed each other, and we both thought about the
other all summer long before we ever met again. The next semester
we did end up dating, after great persistence on my husband's part,
and we were engaged two years later." Their fondest memories are
drinking coffee and talking in their rooms, and those late at night/early
morning trips to HoJo's for breakfast. Some Curry friends who attended
their wedding were Eric Nortman '98, an usher, Herb Kunins '88,
Tyler Kelley, and Matt Nisenaff. Matthew and Danielle have two children,
Rebecca, who just turned 5 in December, and Griffin who will be
2 in May. Matthew is a doctor of chiropractic in New Hampshire and
runs his own practice. Danielle worked in the television industry
and now stays at home with her children and takes care of her husband's
office work. She has also written a book and hopes it will be published
some day! The Hotz family loves living in New Hampshire where they
get to mountain bike and cross-country ski. Danielle wonders, "Who
would have thought that one little meeting at Curry would have lead
to this?"
Jill and Dan Harvey Jill
(Poirier) '92 and Dan Harvey
'92 Jill writes, "We met at the end of our first semester in 1990.
We both worked in the library. Dan would come up and say hello with
his roommate and eventually we found out we were taking a like class
and decided to study together. The rest is history! That was the
beginning of our life together. Our favorite memories of Curry would
have to be the rugby games and all the good times with our friends
that we made at Curry. After graduation, I worked as a nurse at
Boston's Beth Israel Hospital. After Dan graduated, we moved to
Los Angeles. In October 1994 we were engaged and then married in
my hometown in Connecticut on September 2, 1995. Some Curry friends
who attended were Scott Minzy '98, Mike Ventimiglia '92, Amanda
Boucher '92, Nancy Parsley '93, and Jeff Wood '96. (Amanda caught
the bouquet and later married Mike!). I think that Curry greatly
prepared us for our careers and also changed our lives because that
is where we met. We became best friends and we still are.
Ben, David and Matthew Harvey We
are very grateful to Curry for bringing us together. We lived in
southern California for almost 8 years (mostly San Diego) where
our two older sons were born: Ben, 6 and David, 4. Since then, we
have moved to a suburb of Chicago where Dan works as a Senior Staff
Representative at United Airlines Headquarters and I work part-time
as a pediatric nurse at a local hospital. Our youngest son Matthew
was born in Illinois and is now 19 months old. Our three boys keep
us very busy constantly running between baseball, swimming, soccer
and gymnastics. We miss our Curry friends and hope to make it to
the next Homecoming."
