Community Converses About Peace & Justice

During the Fall 2003 semester, the Diversity Committee launched a discussion series called Conversations about Peace and Justice. The committee invited interested participants to meet weekly and provided a place and time for informal conversations about two critical aspects of human society: peace and justice. Advanced reading of War is a Force that Gives Us Meaning by Chris Hedges allowed the group a common experience from which to engage in selected topics for discussion throughout the semester.

Peace and Justice Conversations for the Curry community resume as the Spring 2004 semester begins. Discussion topics planned include the history of the Israeli and Palestinian conflict as seen through the eyes of two men told in the book Tried by Fire by Bassam Abu-Sharif and Uzi Mahnaimi; the genocide in Rwanda as recounted in the book We Wish to Inform You That Tomorrow We Will be Killed with Our Families by Philip Gourevitch; and the issues of guns and violence in America as raised in the film Bowling for Columbine written, produced and directed by Michael Moore.
