| The magnificent, multi-purpose Oscar B. and Frances A. Keith Auditorium was a big hit with Curry Theatre students, alumni and fans when Fall 2006 performances premiered in the partitioned black box theatre and on the main stage.
Located on the ground floor of the new Academic and Performance Center, the Keith Auditorium features flexible seating for 125 to 250 audience members and a separate light/sound booth. Adjacent to the Keith Auditorium are a green room and dressing room for actors complete with private bathrooms and a full shop area for building sets.
According to D.L. Garren, Communication Professor and Theatre Director, "The new space allows students to learn all aspects of theatre and enhance a theatre program that traces its roots back to the founding of the school in 1879. Students who are interested in 'technical theatre' have greater opportunities now. They can build larger sets and learn how to run the control booth for professional lighting and sound."
Professor Garren also noted that there has been increased student interest in Curry |
Theatre for Spring 2007, with more than usual the amount of students auditioning for Jean Giradoux's The Madwoman of Chaillot — "a wild, amazing comedy" — which will run on the main stage from April 28 — May 1, 2007.
