Fall 2006 Highlights

Football Seniors Achieve Rare Feat

Team captains Dan Dufour, Sean Crowley, Chris Ernst and Jarrad Jordan hold the NEFC Championship Trophy after defeating the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, 34-28, on November 11, 2006.

On November 11, 2006, after closing out their four-year regular-season playing careers with a 40-3 record, the Colonels' Football Class of 2007 completed their remarkable run by defeating the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, 34-28, and "retire" as four-time New England Football Conference (NEFC) Champions.

The Colonels became the first NEFC team since 1988 (Plymouth State) and only the third team in conference history (Plymouth State, Nichols) to win four-consecutive titles. The Panthers still hold the all-time record with eight-consecutive championships between 1981 and 1988.

First-year Head Coach Skip Bandini guided Curry to its second undefeated (11-0) regular season in four years and was subsequently named as NEFC Boyd Division Coach of the Year.

The 2007 Colonels will seek a fifth-straight crown behind newly designated team captains Michael Forbes, Frank Pacheco and Tom Pinto.

Soccer Squads Continue to Impress

Eighth-year Head Coach Danielle Ferrara Toomey led Curry to its second 13-win season (13-5-2) in three years. The Colonels went 8-2-2 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play and secured the #4 seed in the CCC Tournament. Curry went undefeated (7-0-2) in its last nine conference games and paced the CCC in fewest goals allowed per game (0.58). For the first time in 12 years, the women's soccer team advanced to the conference semi-finals after a 1-0 quarterfinal home victory against #5 New England College. On November 1, the Colonels traveled to top-seeded Endicott College and lost to the eventual champions, 2-0.

Curry's men's soccer team took another giant step forward in 2006 under third-year Head Coach Paul Kerridge. The Colonels finished at 8-8-1 overall, the program's highest win total and first .500 or better finish since 1995. After notching a 4-6-1 record in CCC games (including three one-goal losses), Curry qualified for the CCC Tournament for the first time since 2001 and was the #7 seed. In the conference quarterfinals, and as testimony to its recent resurgence, Kerridge's squad forced second-seeded Salve Regina into double overtime before succumbing, 3-2.
