  • Curry's Newest Authors

On Tuesday, November 3, 2009, Curry celebrated its newest authors with readings from recent books by Curry faculty. Author Lee Ann Hoff presented and did a brief reading from her latest work, People in Crisis: Clinical and Diversity Perspectives, by Lee Ann Hoff, Bonnie Joyce Hallisey, and Miracle Hoff.

The author also did a reading from her book Violence and Abuse Issues: Cross-cultural Perspectives for Health and Social Services with contributions from Bonnie Joyce Hallisey,
    Magueye Seck, and Marilyn Bell.

Students who in their course of study are using the books this fall provided comments and helped lead a discussion of the social problems that have been addressed in these two books.

Again, congratulations to Curry's newest authors on their accomplishments.

New York City Reception is a Hit!

President Kenneth Quigley, Jr. welcomed over 60 alumni, parents and friends to a Curry reception at the Lotos Club in Manhattan on November 12. Guests enjoyed an evening of camaraderie and networking.

Dean David Potash provided insight to his vision for our College's academic program including opportunities to expand Curry's graduate programs.

Look for photos of this event in next month's edition of @Curry. For information on how you can get involved, please contact The Office of Alumni and Parent Relations or call us at (617) 333-2121.

    Another Successful Curry Connections

The sixth annual Curry Connections Fair was held on Wednesday, October 28. Over 500 students and a number of alumni participated in the event this year. Students interacted with faculty from every academic department, explored their future career options through meeting with Curry alumni, learned about student services, and participated in social activities.

Through Curry Connections, students learn about the many opportunities available at Curry. In addition, by meeting with alumni, students have a wonderful opportunity to form and achieve their educational, career and personal goals.

A special thank you goes to alumni who took part in this event: Dominick Aielli '95, WBZ-CBS Boston, June Cotter '86, MA Trial Court/Stoughton District Court, Jon Albanese '03, Entercom Boston (WEEI), Christopher Annese '05, Curl Films, Jamie Coy '08, The New England Center for Children, Brianna Larivee '08, PE Systems and Kristyn MacFawn '08, New York Life Insurance Company. Thank you again to all the alumni who participated this year - we could not do it without your support!

Alumni Games are a Winner on Campus

The Curry College Softball program held its eleventh Alumni game on Saturday, October 10. There were 22 softball alumni who returned to the diamond ready for action and came away with a 4-3 victory over the current softball squad. It certainly was an exciting game with plenty of laughs as well.

A pre-game brunch was enjoyed by all in the new Student Center. Lisa Bello '04 began the game portion by singing an inspired version of our National Anthem. Kate Fallon '05 pitched her team to the victory by scattering 6 hits over the 7 innings. It really was a reunion of former Commonwealth Coast Conference All-Star players and members of the Curry College Hall of Fame. Michelle Maiocca '98, Leanne Tarkanian '00, Nicole Leckie '01, along with many other great players, enjoyed the day. The class of 2009 was well represented by Jessica Coyle, Alysia DiMuzio, Katie O'Neill, Christina Sancinito and Lauren Tobey. A post-game barbeque was held at the field to wrap up the day.

The Softball program would like to thank all the players who made it back for this great day of softball and would like to invite you to attend some of our games in the Spring.

On October 24, Curry College football alumni from the past decade came back to campus to take part in a flag football game. Despite a less than ideal forecast, eighteen players took the field early Saturday for a morning of football and camaraderie. Mike Coppenrath '05 and Jay Marshall '00 showed they still had it as they took home the MVP awards for their outstanding play.

Following the game, players had an opportunity to visit the new Student Center. Special thanks go out to Jeff Lang '02 for his hard work and effort to make this event a success.
