What is Campus Link
The Campus Link e-newsletter for students was created and developed to be another link between students and campus operational, logistical and procedural accomplishments and undertakings. This e-newsletter will be distributed between semesters to inform students of previous semester accomplishments and future events on campus that will have an impact on their Curry experience, as well as provide important information to assist students in preparing and planning for the next semester.

To more effectively tailor the e-newsletter to meet students' interest, we encourage students to submit subject matters or questions they would like to see addressed in future editions of Campus Link. To do so, please send an email to currylink@curry.edu.

New Student Center Coming Soon!

The 83,000 square foot facility will be built directly behind the existing Drapkin Student Center. Construction will begin in March 2008 and the project is estimated to be completed in 18-24 months.

"It is our goal, which I am confident we will achieve, to establish a first-class Student Center which will provide students the extracurricular and co-curricular experiences they deserve," said President Quigley. "The new Student Center will connect the academic and residential life of the College and serve as a hub of activity for all community members."

Stay tuned for future updates!

New Guest Policy

Students have expressed to Public Safety the importance of knowing who is on campus, especially guests.  In response, Public Safety implemented the following policy, effective November 2007, regarding overnight guests and their vehicles:

Students must obtain a guest pass from their RA or RD if they are requesting a guest to stay overnight.  If the student's guest has a vehicle that will be parked overnight, they must receive an Overnight Guest Parking Pass from Public Safety.  The pass can be obtained at the Public Safety Office Monday through Friday from 8:30am - 4:30pm.  Under unusual circumstances, a student may obtain a pass at the guard shack. However, the preferred method is at Public Safety during normal business hours.  Students residing on the north side of campus will instruct their guest to park in the Athletic Lot.  Students that reside on the south side of campus will instruct their guest to park their vehicle in the Front Gate Lot.  The Overnight Guest Parking Pass must be displayed on the dashboard of the vehicle.  Remember as the Student Handbook states - students are responsible for their guests.

We have also been extra vigilant regarding our Front Gate.  If a person enters the front gate and states to Public Safety that they are here to pick a student up or here for a visit; the person will be asked to contact the student, and have the student call Public Safety at 617-333-2222 for verification.  Once the student calls us and confirms with us their Curry College ID# and other pertinent information their visitor will then be allowed to proceed.  If we do not receive verification from the student, the visitor will NOT BE ALLOWED ON CAMPUS.  Please assist Public Safety with this policy; it is being implemented for the safety of the entire campus community.

Is Campus Safety Important to You?
WARN Logo In the wake of Columbine, Virginia Tech and many other incidents of school and campus violence, it is important that we all work together to keep our campus as safe as we reasonably can. The Public Safety, Residence Life and Buildings and Grounds staff are committed to campus safety, but they can't do it alone. Security and safety will be undermined without the support and active involvement of the students. If you ever see something that seems suspicious, please don't hesitate to contact Public Safety at 617-333-2222.

Curry College has implemented the W.A.R.N. (Wide Area Rapid Notification) System to communicate with our internal community members, students, faculty and staff in the case of an emergency. With W.A.R.N., we can communicate with you through devices such as land line phone (office and/or home), cellular, 1-way pager, 2-way pager, Blackberry or other text device, email, SMS, and TTY. To receive W.A.R.N. alerts, you must sign up. To sign up for W.A.R.N.alearts, follow this link.

Also, in every classroom and every administrative building on campus you may have noticed a red booklet posted. This is the Curry College Emergency Management Guide. The guide is there to assist our community with potential emergency situations that could happen on campus. The guide booklet lists emergency contact telephone numbers and gives instructions if we have an Intruder/Suspicious person on campus, a hazardous materials spill, an accident/serious injury, to evacuate a building due to a fire, bomb threat or an explosion, etc.

The college is doing its best to ensure safety on campus but, again, we are more effective when students work with us. Please call Public Safety at 617-333-2222 to report any and all safety issues.

Is Curry College Prepared for a Pandemic Outbreak? Yes!
Curry College Health Center

Preparation for a pandemic or avian flu outbreak requires both personal and organizational preparation. Curry College has developed a campus-wide plan to prepare for this type of epidemic. A committee has been working since November 2006 to consider many different scenarios.  Although we anticipate joining forces with the town of Milton, we are also prepared to care for our own students and community members if the system becomes overwhelmed.  We have identified an area to care for multiple sick individuals, and purchased cots and bedding, and additional medical supplies.  Soon you will notice hand sanitizer dispensers in various locations all over campus.

It is important that every Curry community member consider how they would personally prepare for this type of event.  Your first line of defense is protecting yourself from infectious diseases by frequently washing your hands, and practicing appropriate cough and respiratory hygiene.  Remember the place to cough and sneeze is in your sleeve or use tissues and dispose of them properly.  We highly recommend having alcohol based hand sanitizer available in your room or on your person for your own use.

An Update on Room Selection for Fall 08

The Office of Residence Life and Housing is pleased to announce that our annual Room Selection process will take place during the spring semester in early April.

The goal of the room selection process is to assign every student a room in a fair manner. Consequently, the room selection process is determined by the availability of spaces, the demand for each of the housing options, class size, and the assignment of lottery numbers generated through a randomized process.

Eligibility to participate in the room selection process requires that each student pay a $300 housing deposit by Friday, March 7 at Student Financial Services and attend room selection.

It is crucial that students are mindful of the various dates and deadlines related to room selection. Failure to observe these deadlines can result in loss of priority or ineligibility to take part in the selection process.  The room selection schedule will be available in early February on the Residence Life website, via your campus e-mail and postings in your residence halls.

If you have any questions, please contact your Residence Director or call the Office of Residence Life & Housing at X2252.

Cans Across America,
Curry #1 in the Country
To say that the students, faculty, & staff at Curry College thoroughly embraced the 2007 Cans Across America promotion would be an understatement. Following the 2006 Cans Across America promotion in which Curry collected 7,739 pounds of non-perishable food and earned the ranking of #2 in the country, the Curry community vowed to do better next year.

This Curry campaign began at midnight on November 7 with a kick-off breakfast in which Curry volunteers served the food, cleaned the tables, and collected the $3.00 or three can admission. In addition to the midnight breakfast, Curry also conducted a residence hall competition among the eight residential areas on campus with the Scholars & Rose Residence Halls leading the way by collecting 2,058 pounds of food.

When all of the donations had been logged, over 70 Curry volunteers had collected 16,019 pounds of food which equates to 12,515 meals for the less fortunate, and achieved the title of #1 in the country.

The results prove that today's students really do care about the community around them and that anything can be accomplished if you really set your mind to it.

Building a H.O.U.S.E in your Residence Hall

You may have noticed advertisements for programs that are going on in your building like pizza and a movie, resume workshop, and cooking a whole meal in a microwave! Each month, the residence life staff in your building is working hard to present programs for you, based on the H.O.U.S.E. programming model. H.O.U.S.E is an acronym for Health/Holistic, Open-mindedness/Diversity, Unity/Togetherness, Service to Community, and Everyday Skills. Each month, the RAs will present various building-wide programs based on one aspect of the  H.O.U.S.E programming model, to make your living experience at Curry not only socially rewarding, but educational as well. If at any time you have suggestions for the kind of programs that you would like to see presented, please share your thoughts and suggestions with the Residence Life staff.

Online Access
From the comforts of your room, you can access online the bookstore, an itemized invoice without visiting the Bursar's office, generate Work Study Employment Contracts and much more..

Books on-line

Anyone taking a class at Curry can now login to CWIS and go to Order Books on-line under the Student Services and Financial Aid tab.  This feature automatically populates the screen with all the assigned textbooks for the student's classes.  You can choose to add those to your shopping cart and add another book or just search for another course.  With just a click to order, the titles can be shipped or made ready to pick up at the bookstore.  It's a great way to avoid time-consuming searches and long lines.

An important note to remember when you use this feature you need to enable pop-ups.  To do this go to the Tools menu, choose pop-up blocker and then turn off pop-up blocker.

Itemized Invoices

While getting a bill is never popular, access to it has never been easier with the new online invoice.  Students can use the Student Account/Invoice option in CWIS to see the status of Curry transactions, charges, and payments in a user-friendly format.  Plus, making a payment by credit card is just a few clicks away, and it's done.  This allows students, and the financial staff who work with them, to see the same information in real time.

Federal Work Study Employment

For students who are eligible for Federal Work Study Employment, the initial process for getting the appropriate forms and filling out an accurate contract used to be time-consuming due to the large numbers of students lining up in Human Resources.  Now they can get those forms from HR's website and using CWIS, can generate their own contracts.  By choosing Work Study Employment Contract, a student's work study benefit info goes straight from Banner onto the form.  Now it's ready for HR and for a new employment opportunity!

The new features above are in addition to what was currently available through CWIS on the Student and Financial Aid Tab, as listed bewlo:

Registration

You can register for a class, look up classes, view a week at a glance, see a student detail schedule, view your registration status, active registration and registration history.
