Dear Curry Faculty & Staff,
I am excited to bring you the inaugural edition of Currently@Curry. This month's edition includes information on some wonderful new initiatives here at the College. The Spring 2010 semester is underway in what continues to be a challenging external economic environment. Our work takes on even more importance as we strive to meet these challenges. Many thanks to all of you - your dedication to our students and the College is sure to produce more great things in 2010. Thank you for your feedback. Your comments and suggestions are always appreciated. Sincerely, Mary Dunn |
| "Blue Skies Ahead" at Faculty Retreat 2010 |
The annual Faculty Retreat took place on January 19 and included an exciting change in venue from years past, moving to the recently constructed Student Center. Judging by the feedback from many of those in attendance, the event was a resounding success.
The theme of this year's retreat was Program Planning. Morning discussion sessions stressed General Education core values. But by far, the highlight of the day was the "Blue Sky" Program Development Session.

| Faculty News and Notes |
Congratulations to Professor Robert Keighton on two recent publications. The first is a historical brochure entitled, "Doty Tavern and the American Revolution". The brochure discusses the background to the meeting that took place at Doty Tavern on August 16, 1774 which led to the Suffolk Resolves. The brochure will be available at Historic Prowse Farm when the museum opens.
In addition, at the end of 2009, the Paintings of Robert Keighton: Landscape Paintings from 1995 to 2008 was published. It's a wonderful collection of Bob's paintings from the Medfield Marshes, to Old Lyme, Connecticut, and to the Isle of Shoals. A copy is available at Levin Library. Congratulations again!
Congratulations also to Dr. Susan LaRocco who has had her work published once again! Her latest is: "Assisting Nursing Students to Develop Empathy Using a Writing Assignment" in Nurse Educator (Jan-Feb 2010). "When we think about what nurses need to be competent in their work, we use the initials KSA - knowledge, skills and attitude. Patients deserve to be "cared" for not to just have their physiologic needs meet," explained Dr. LaRocco. "For students who have never experienced serious or fatal illness, either personally or with a loved one, it is difficult to understand what the patient and family are feeling. These papers are always a delight to read. "

The myCurry web portal provides quick, easy access to Blackboard, the CWIS, E-mail, and EZLabor with just one password. But more importantly, logging in is another way to be involved in the Curry College community.
Besides phone lookups, photo rosters, and quick access to reports, there are tabs and links which bring together resources from scattered locations, such as the Curry Website, the network Common Drive, and Banner. The portal also leads you to new MyCurry communities, services, and shortcuts.
Check it out for yourself at the myCurry portal and be sure to visit the Feedback tab while you're there to suggest new features or improve existing ones... |
| Curry Aids Haitian Relief Effort |
With the current crisis in Haiti, the Curry community has once again risen to the challenge of helping those in need. Tragic events such as this make us stop, pause and appreciate what we have and our sympathies go out to all members of the Haitian community, family and friends.
Upon returning from Winter Break, two students, Laurie Lessage '10 and Yveline Simon '10, took on leadership roles to help the College organize relief efforts. They are working with student clubs and organizations, as well as faculty and staff, to show that the Curry community cares and that we want to do what we can to help the Haitian relief cause.
When asked about the relief work, Lessage said, "As senior class President and a Haitian American, I felt it was my civic duty to do whatever possible to help Haiti and educate the Curry Community."

| Important Info about the MA 1099-HC Form |
You should have received the 1099-HC form from your Health Insurance Provider (Harvard Pilgrim Health Care for Curry Participants) - all forms must be received by January 31, 2010. The 1099-HC form will be used to complete the Schedule HC form on your Massachusetts Resident State Income Tax Return. The 1099-HC does not need to be attached to your State Income Tax forms, but you are advised to keep this form with all of your other tax related documents. Please contact Harvard Pilgrim Health Care if you have misplaced the information, or if you do not receive your 1099-HC. Massachusetts residents who did not enroll in a plan, and did not meet the exemption criteria outlined by the Department of Revenue could be faced with significant penalties.
