"I love hearing students talk about their ideas and seeing their satisfaction when they get those ideas down in writing in a way that both expresses their individual vision and makes sense to their readers. I have also travelled in Spain and Puerto Rico and always enjoy opportunities to practice my Spanish!"

Kara earned a BA in linguistics, literature, and creative writing from Hampshire College and an MA and PhD in English from the University of Minnesota with concentrations in contemporary American poetry and contemporary Native American and African American literature. She has published two books of poetry: Topless (2011) and Nests (2006). Her poetry also appears in several anthologies and a number of literary journals. Kara teaches writing and oversees the Writing Center at Curry, in addition to conducting creative writing workshops for elementary students through adults at schools and libraries. Kara likes to travel, participate in poetry readings, run, hike, and generally enjoy wildlife and the outdoors.
