Khaila Fitzgerald '18 - Psychology
On the first drive up to Curry from Connecticut, Khaila Fitzgerald was both excited and anxious. But within her first couple of days at Curry, Khaila made friends that she knows she will have for a lifetime, and that calmed her nerves and gave her comfort.
Curry's small class sizes also allow Khaila to get one-on-one interactions with her professors, another close connection that Khaila appreciates. Since looking into people's minds and motives has always been Khaila's dream, the obvious choice when she was choosing a major was Psychology.
"I love the Psychology department here," says Khaila. "All of my professors motivate me every day to reach beyond any goals I ever thought I could have. Every time I go into class I feel like I'm so important here."
Not only is Khaila thriving in her classrooms - she was recently invited to apply to the Honors Program - she also excels in her extracurricular activities. She is part of Curry's dance team and is the Class of 2018 President in the Student Government Association (SGA), a role she truly enjoys despite initially thinking of it as "so out of her comfort zone." Plus, Khaila's on-campus job at the Curry Early Childhood Center (CECC) helps her gain valuable field experience related to her major.
One of Khaila's favorite things about Curry is how close it is to Boston. And with the shuttles that Curry provides, it gives her and her friends a safe way to go in and out of the city. Khaila can always find something fun to do to take a break from her studies, whether it's in Boston or on campus.
"Just being myself here is something that has made me grow as a student and a person. Every day I wake up there's something new to challenge me, but never in the sense that I'm scared of the challenge - I always welcome it, and that's the best part about being here."
