Education Student Selected for Prestigious Teaching Residency
February 22, 2017
Roxanne Emokpae (Class of 2017, Elementary Education) has been accepted into the Boston Teacher Residency (BTR) program. Roxanne is the first ever Curry student to be accepted into the program, and was one of 22 students selected for the 2017-2018 program year.
BTR is a yearlong classroom apprenticeship with master's-level coursework that gives talented college graduates and career changers the tools they need to make an impact in Boston Public School classrooms.
In the Spring 2017 semester, Roxanne is participating in a field-based Special Project where she plans to shadow an elementary school principal along with completing a related research project. "Curry College has given me the confidence and skills I need to thrive as a teacher inside Boston Public Schools," said Roxanne.
"Roxanne was destined for greatness from the time we met her as a first-year student at Curry. Having been educated in Boston schools, she expressed an early desire to teach in Boston and to eventually become an administrator. With her BTR acceptance, Roxanne's career trajectory is on the fast track," said Dr. Joanne Ruane Seltzer, Curry College Education Professor and Coordinator of Teacher Preparation.
