Parkinson’s Foundation Accepts Prof. Sarah Russell to Elite Educator Training Program

The Parkinson's Foundation accepted Professor Sarah Russell to its distinguished Edmond J. Safra Visiting Nurse Faculty Program at the Boston University Parkinson's Disease & Movement Disorder Center. The prestigious, 40-hour accredited program - which accepted just 35 applicants nationwide this year - offers advanced Parkinson's Disease (PD) training for nursing educators. 

Rigorous coursework includes didactics, clinical time with patients, participation in a PD support group, and the opportunity to develop an independent project. The highly selective program counts just 228 alumni, but these PF Nurse Scholars educate more than 20,000 nursing students on PD care each year.   

"With the number of people living with Parkinson's globally expected to double by 2040 to nearly 13 million, teaching nursing students in the classroom is one of the best ways to prepare them for treating people with Parkinson's when they graduate," said Camila Gadala-Maria, a Professional Education Associate at the Parkinson's Foundation.
