High school senior Kayla Elliott learned she will attend Curry College under a full-tuition, four-year scholarship, during a surprise ceremony in East Boston on Tuesday, April 24.

Curry selected Kayla for the award in proud partnership with the Scholar Athletes Zone program, a Massachusetts non-profit that supports academic achievement through athletics. Kayla is a member of her local Scholar Athletes Zone, where students can receive coaching, tutoring, and advising.

"Scholar Athletes who have matriculated at Curry College are exemplary students who make a profound impact on our community," said Curry College President Kenneth K. Quigley, Jr. "We are proud of our continued partnership with Scholar Athletes and value the work their organization is doing to support high school students who have demonstrated a commitment to academic success and leadership."

Kayla has earned a 5.2 cumulative GPA at East Boston High School, where she is a National Honor Society member and the captain of her varsity softball team.

Curry's Assistant Director of Admission, Elizabeth Botieri, and Admission Counselor George Garcia attended the ceremony to help surprise Kayla with the good news. The aspiring Nursing student plans to enroll at the College this fall.
