In the Curry College Summer PAL online program, we:

  • provide opportunities for meaningful engagement
  • increase opportunities for social bonding with students and faculty
  • set clear and consistent boundaries
  • teach life skills
  • provide caring and support
  • set and communicate high expectations (and support students to reach these goals)

By working together this summer, PAL students will experience:

  • MEANINGFUL ENGAGEMENT:
    • Meet several PAL Professors and specifically and primarily connect with one of them.
    • As we get to know you, offer an opportunity to receive suggestions regarding matching your learning style with your fall schedule from your PAL professor. Some changes can be made, depending on various circumstances.
    • Provide information about you to PAL professors which will set you up for success in the fall because getting to know you will better help us to capitalize on your learning potential.
  • BONDING:
    • Make small group connections with an assigned PAL professor – only 7 students in a group. Small groups allow more attention from the professor.
    • Make synchronous (at the same time, in the same virtual classroom) deep connections with at LEAST 7 other students – occasionally up to 30.
    • Connect with multiple PAL Peer Mentors, starting your fall already knowing them and who to approach for help and direction from peers.
    • Build trust
  • BOUNDARIES:
    • Learn about the Curry College Handbook and how to be a good citizen of the College, setting you up for success when you start school on campus.
    • Learn about residence life and other aspects of Curry College that will set you up for success.
  • LIFE SKILLS:
    • Gain experience and skills in technology and apps that get you off the ground for the fall.
    • Engage with the College’s remote learning environment. This practice will be critical as you ease into the fall semester, no matter what the Governor decides about social distancing.
    • Take virtual tours of the campus and all the people and services at your fingertips.
    • Less anxiety - square away your fall calendar, and get practice making yourself stick to a productive schedule.
  • CARING AND SUPPORT:
    • Learn about your learning style and how to use that information to establish the most resilient experience for yourself as possible.
    • Build your confidence and level of comfort.
  • COMMUNICATE HIGH EXPECTATIONS:
    • Meet a Curry College classroom professor and take a mini course. This will provide exposure and practice.
