Continuing Education Students Provide Public Relations Services to Fair Foods, Inc.

Curry College continuing education students enrolled in the Principles of Public Relations course during the Spring 2015 semester assisted Fair Foods Inc., a nonprofit organization, as a class project.

"The best way to learn is hands on," says Kirsten Whitten, a lecturer in the Communication department and the students' instructor.

The students were able to choose any nonprofit organization, and were tasked with putting together a public relations plan for areas in which the organization needed the most PR help. The students selected Fair Foods, a nonprofit food rescue organization dedicated to providing surplus goods at low or no cost to those in need.

The students went to distribution centers to lend a hand, take photos, and shoot video footage. The elements the students created for Fair Foods included: a PR Plan, a new logo, a web site home page design, a YouTube account complete with a student-created video documentary for the organization, a Facebook page, flyers, radio PSAs, press releases, calendar listings and ideas for events to help solicit volunteers and donors.
