Explore multiplicative structures and algebraic functions from the perspective of a teacher to better understand children's thinking.

Pedagogy and Specialized Instruction in Mathematics: The Case of Geometry and Statistics:
Practice launching authentic and cognitively demanding tasks for students while exploring ideas about geometry, measurement, data, and chance.

Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL)
Title II, Section 207 of the Higher Education Act requires all institutions with teacher preparation programs that enroll students who receive federal financial assistance to prepare annual reports on teacher preparation and licensing.

Note: Curry College had a 100% pass rate for all program completers during the 2021-2022 reporting year.

The Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure are administered Monday-Saturday at designated test centers in Massachusetts and in many states each academic year. Students who complete the requirements for the Mathematics Education Minor will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate their understanding of number theory, the structure of numeration systems, and the properties of the real number system.
  2. Describe and operate with integers, fractions, decimals, and percents.
  3. Use fundamental principles of probability, descriptive statistics and the statistical methods used in collecting, organizing, reporting, and analyzing data.
  4. Demonstrate their understanding of patterns and the properties of functions and relations, including translating problems into algebraic expressions and manipulating and solving algebraic expressions, equations, and inequalities.
  5. Apply properties of linear, quadratic, exponential, polynomial, and rational functions and relations, and ratios and proportions to the solution of problems.
  6. Apply principles of Euclidean geometry, coordinate geometry, and transformational geometry to prove theorems and analyze the characteristics and properties of two- and three-dimensional shapes.
