Checklists and Facts for Students 2023-2024:

All prospective and currently enrolled students are eligible to apply for financial aid as long as you are enrolled in a degree program, are a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident (Information about acceptable documentation for Citizenship Verification), have a high school diploma or equivalent, are making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) as defined in the Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy, meet enrollment status requirements and must have resolved any drug conviction issue.

New! Massachusetts Application for State Financial Aid (MASFA)

Massachusetts residents ineligible to apply for financial aid using the FAFSA due to citizenship status may be eligible for this grant from the Commonwealth of MA. The Massachusetts Application for State Financial Aid (MASFA) is for students who have completed at least three years of high school in Massachusetts and received a diploma but are ineligible for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) due to their immigration status. It should be completed by students who are beginning college in Spring 2024 or were enrolled in the Fall 2023 semester and may qualify for financial aid. The deadline for completing the MASFA to receive financial aid for the 2023-2024 school year is May 15, 2024. There will be a new MAFSA for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Establish a Federal Student Aid ID

Students, parents, and borrowers are required to use an Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID) made up of a username and password, to access certain U.S. Department of Education websites, including the FAFSA.  Your FSA ID is used to confirm your identity when accessing your financial aid information and electronically signing your federal student aid documents.  If you don't already have an FSA ID and password, you will need to create one before completing your FAFSA.

To create your FSA ID, go to studentaid.gov/fsa-id.  Remember both the student and student's parent, who completes the FAFSA, must each have a FSA ID.

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form is used to apply for all need based aid at Curry College. Need-based financial aid comes from many sources. These sources include institutional funding, federal and state student financial aid, including grants, student loans and work study. In addition, the FAFSA is used by most states to award non-federal student financial aid. You can file the FAFSA online.

After you and your parent(s) have received your FSA ID(s), go to studentaid.gov to complete the FAFSA online.  You must list Curry College's federal school code 002143 for Curry to receive your information.  The website will guide you through the application process.  You will need your family's income and asset information readily available, as you complete the FAFSA.  If you have questions about the FAFSA application, you can call the toll-free help line at 1-800-433-3243.

Additional Documents

Students may be asked to submit additional documentation to determine or finalize financial aid eligibility.  The most common request is due to a process called verification.  Verification is a process for confirming information reported on the FAFSA.  It involves the collection and review of additional documents specified by the Department of Education. Student Financial Services will reach out to the student through email and regular mail with requests for specific documents to complete the verification process.

Curry College awards a portion of its institutional funds and all federal and state assistance based on financial need as demonstrated  by the analysis of student and parents, if applicable,  financial resources  indicated on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the federal tax data of the family. These funds are known as need-based financial aid. Additionally, the College awards a number of institutional merit based awards which do not require the filing of the FAFSA.

A need-based aid philosophy assumes the student and parents are primarily responsible for the cost of an education to the extent of their ability and financial aid is used to supplement the efforts of the family.  The College uses Federal Methodology, (FM) which  is the formula used by the federal government to determine your Student Aid Index (SAI). Federal Methodology evaluates your income and assets, provides non-discretionary allowances against both resources and determines how much your family can contribute. The SAI is then subtracted from your cost of attendance to calculate your financial need.  Your financial need is used to determine the amount and type of aid - such as grants, work study, or loans - that you are eligible to receive, dependent on funding levels and the terms and the specific eligibility requirements of each fund.

To receive need-based federal, state or institutional financial aid, the student  must meet certain requirements. You must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen.
  • Have a valid Social Security Number (unless you're from the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, or the Republic of Palau).
  • Have a high school diploma or a General Education Development (GED) Certificate or pass an exam approved by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a regular student working toward a degree or certificate in an eligible program.
  • You must demonstrate financial need (except for Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loans).
  • You must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Financial aid comes in three forms: scholarships and grants (gift aid), loans, and student employment. Curry College provides students with millions of dollars in financial aid each year. The College uses its own endowment funds; gifts from friends, foundations and corporations, alumni, parents, and other donors to be able to provide this funding to our students. Curry also receives substantial funding from the various state and federal financial aid programs.

We believe in the potential of every Curry College student and realize that financing a student's education can be challenging for a family. The College is committed to providing students and families with tools to assist in the education financing process.

Outside Aid/Private Scholarships is any financial aid offered by a private agency or entity.  For example: Rotary Club, Walmart, etc.  Any student who receives funds from a source not listed on their Curry College Financial Aid Award Letter prior to or during the academic year, is required to notify the Office of Student Financial Services in writing of the receipt of such funds.  Outside Scholarships are used to reduce institutional unmet need, if any. If the student has no unmet need, the College will reduce Federal Work Study or Massachusetts No Interest Loan funds before reducing institutional grant funds.
