Latin convocationem, from convocare, “to call together”; from com-, “together” + vocare, “to call”; from vox “voice”. A group of people formally assembled for a special purpose. A ceremonial assembly at a college or university.
Curry College will celebrate the annual New Student Academic Convocation on Monday, August 26, 2024, officially welcoming the incoming Class of 2028 to campus, while sharing the many opportunities ahead for the new academic year.
Convocation begins at 9:30 a.m. on Westhaver Park with the new student procession from the Academic Quad, and continues inside Katz Gymnasium. A reception will be held outside the Student Center immediately following the ceremony.

Cameron Hoyt–Psychology, Class of 2016
Zoe Hoyt–Communication, Class of 2018
While a student at Curry, Cameron Hoyt ‘16 served in the Student Government Association, and was elected President in 2016. He was also a Resident Assistant and Orientation Leader, and participated in the Alternative Spring Break program. Cam is currently the Assistant Director of New Student and Family Programs at the University of Massachusetts- Boston.
Zoe Hoyt ’18 graduated with a degree in Communication, and was an active member of the Curry community. She served as Executive Student Body President for two years, participated in the Alternative Spring Break for three years, and was also a Student Building Manager and Admissions Assistant. She has taken all this experience into her current role as the Assistant Director of Student Engagement at Questrom School of Business at Boston University.
In their spare time, Cameron and Zoe passionately represent The Hoyt Foundation, a non-profit organization that aspires to build the individual character, self-confidence, and self-esteem of America’s disabled young people through inclusion in all facets of daily life. In honor of Cameron’s late grandfather and uncle, Dick and Rick Hoyt, he proudly ran his first Boston Marathon in 2023, while Zoe served as the director of development for the Hoyt Foundation.
The two were married in Gloucester on June 2, 2023.
