Attorney Linked with Nationally Acclaimed True Crime Podcast Speaks to CJ Class

Professor of Criminal Justice and Sociology Dr. Jennifer Balboni recently welcomed Attorney Ray Charles Carter to speak to her Criminal Procedure class. Carter joined the class remotely from his office in Mississippi and addressed the case of Curtis Flowers, which has become the subject of the acclaimed podcast In the Dark (Season 2) by American Public Media. As Flowers’ attorney, Carter helped overturn the wrongful conviction that kept Flowers in prison for 22 years.

Attorney Carter, who has practiced law in the South for more than three decades, spoke about his involvement in the case, the impact of the podcast, and what “justice” might look like now for his former client, who currently remains in jail.
