Nursing Professor and President of the American Nurses Association - Massachusetts (ANA-MA), Dr. Cathleen Santos traveled to Washington, D.C this past summer to attend the ANA Membership Assembly and ANA Lobby Day. During Lobby Day, Santos and colleagues went to Capitol Hill to meet with legislators to discuss the key issues faced by the field of nursing. Topics included the federal level safe staffing bill, providing care for veterans, and issues of gun violence, mental health, and the opioid epidemic.

All of the issues addressed during the trip had one focus - better care for patients across the country. Santos returned to Massachusetts "filled with energy" and shared her experiences in an ANA-MA President's Message, published in the September 2016 edition of the ANA-MA newsletter, Massachusetts Report on Nursing.
