All of my professors want us to take away relevant information that applies to the workplace, and they really deliver. At my job, I've noticed how I'll be working on an issue and realize I just studied that topic in class. It's great to see how the theory from our textbooks applies to real-world situations.

Gerontology

Gerontology is a growing field; as people are living longer, there will be even greater demand for gerontology professions.  As the demographic trend towards an increasing proportion of older adults evolves, so does the need for innovative, supportive resources to address this population shift.  The Gerontology Certificate is open to all students with an interest in learning about current concepts and trends, as well as research and advocacy related to gerontology.

The Gerontology Certificate is designed to promote increased understanding, insight and basis for working with older adults in a variety of settings such as living communities and social support services.

* The Gerontology Certificate program is offered at the Milton Campus only and will be delivered in a hybrid format.

Who Should Pursue this Program?

The Curry College Gerontology Certificate program is designed to meet the needs of:

  • Individuals interested in gaining a deeper understanding of the process of aging and the issues unique to this population
  • Professionals in the fields of nursing, social work, psychology, sociology, and other health-related careers
  • Individuals working in services for the aging
  • Career-changers motivated to seek careers in social service fields

This program is open to anyone seeking a stand-alone certificate program, regardless of whether you already hold a bachelor's degree or not. For those who wish to return to school to complete a bachelor's degree on a part-time basis, consider completing this certificate to augment your professional skills, while you work on your degree requirements. The credits received in this certificate may be applied toward a degree.  The curriculum for this certificate is based on guidelines established by the Association of Gerontology in Higher Education.
