Curry College President Jay Gonzalez shared today that Graham, the College's beloved comfort dog, loyal friend, and cherished member of the Curry community, passed away peacefully after a brief battle with cancer.
An English Golden Retriever, Graham was just two-and-a-half years old. He joined the Curry College community at only eight weeks old and quickly became one of its most recognizable and beloved ambassadors, bringing comfort, joy, and connection to students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors alike.
Whether cheering on Curry's athletic teams, visiting classrooms, attending student organization events, or offering a calming presence during stressful times, Graham had an extraordinary ability to brighten every room he entered. He welcomed new students and their families during move-in, charmed prospective students and parents on campus tours, and celebrated graduates each year with his signature warmth and wagging tail at Commencement.
"There is no way to fully express what Graham meant to our community - or to me and my wife, Cyndi, personally," said President Gonzalez. "We learned so much from him. He loved everyone without hesitation. He appreciated life's simple joys and reminded us to do the same. You had to be careful opening a banana around him - that snap of the peel would send him racing over, determined to share.
"Graham brought playfulness, comfort, and unconditional love to thousands of people during his short life. He had an incredible gift for making people feel seen, welcomed, and cared for. We have been deeply moved by the outpouring of love from everyone whose lives he touched, and we know his spirit will remain an enduring part of the Curry community."
Since arriving on campus, Graham became much more than the College's comfort dog. He served as a source of emotional support during challenging moments, celebrated milestones alongside students, and created countless opportunities for connection across campus. His gentle nature and joyful spirit embodied the sense of community that defines Curry College.
The College will celebrate Graham's life when students return to campus this fall. Members of the Curry community and all who were touched by Graham are invited to share memories, photos, and messages on his online Memory Wall.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Graham's memory may be made to support student wellness and support services at Curry College.
