Channing Elementary & Curry College Partnership

Curry College has three-year professional development partnership with the Channing Elementary School in the Boston Public School District, started in December of 2021.  The goal of this partnership is to improve student learning outcomes with high-quality professional development for educators in conjunction with content expert classroom coaching cycles.  The Channing Elementary/Curry College partnership is supporting the development and implementation of classroom practices to support students as they engage in discourse, reasoning, thinking, and modeling in mathematics classes.

Curry College professors Dr. Giordana Basta and Dr. Jen McNally collaborate with Channing Elementary staff to advance students' mathematical practices.

With support, coaching, and professional development provided by Curry College faculty partners, Channing staff will:

  • Intentionally design, implement, and adapt mathematics lessons that facilitate students' enactment of the 8 Common Core State Standards Mathematics Practice Standards.
  • Develop systems for evaluating and responding to evidence of students' development of conceptual understanding in mathematics.
  • Develop systems for evaluating and responding to evidence of students' development of mathematical practices.

Curry College graduate credit is available for participants who are interested.

Each of the three years of partnership will have this opportunity available, and participants may choose to combine the credits to be equivalent to one 3-credit course in the M.Ed. program.
