The Curry College Principal and Supervisor Licensure Program (PSL) is represented by a principal in front of his school's office The Curry College Principal and Supervisor Licensure Program (PSL) is a unique training opportunity for aspiring school administrators. The program focuses on linking best practice with theory to achieve measurable, real-world performance goals.  Our program will prepare candidates for one of the following leadership roles:

  • Principal/Assistant Principal Licensure (Pre-K - 8 and 5 -12), or
  • Special Education Administrator (all levels), or
  • Supervisor/Director (level depends on prerequisite license)

PSL Program Information

Curry College is pleased to offer a 10% tuition discount when two candidates from the same school district enroll in the Principal/Supervisor Licensure Program.  A 20% tuition discount will be provided when three or more candidates from the same school district enroll in the PSL Program.

You may also qualify for one of the following discounts:

  • Alumni of Curry College receive a 20% tuition discount.
  • Veterans receive a 20% tuition discount.

Do you qualify for the Principal and Supervisor Licensure program?

You may be eligible if you:

  • Hold a current Massachusetts educator license
  • Have worked under a Massachusetts educator license for at least 3 years
  • Have passed MTEL Communication and Literacy - Reading and Writing
  • Are working in a DESE-approved school
  • Have a mentor who hold the license you are seeking and is willing to mentor you

One-Year Intensive Licensure Program

Our program provides 550-hour Pre-practicum/Practicum supported by relevant coursework. Course assignments will require candidates to assume specific responsibilities in the school where they work as part of the Practicum. These responsibilities will be assessed against both practical and theoretical research-based criteria, including the most recent Massachusetts standards and evaluative instruments, to ensure that theory and practice are closely aligned.

Convenient Schedule and Hybrid Format

Classes are scheduled one evening a week and are delivered in a hybrid format - a blend of in-person discussions and online activities - to best meet the needs of busy professionals.

Curry's Principal and Supervisor Licensure Program has been approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Program Requirements:

  • An earned master’s degree in an education-related discipline from an accredited institution
  • Passing scores on the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) Communication and Literacy Skills Test
  • Minimum 3 years experience working under a Massachusetts education license
  • Evidence of leadership experience or potential
  • District support for your full participation in the program, including an experienced (minimum 3 yrs), on-site mentor working in the licensure area candidate seeks
  • Competent use of common business application software (i.e., Word, Powerpoint) and familiarity with learning technologies

Application Requirements:

  1. Official transcript of your earned master’s degree. If applying for CAGS courses only, a copy of your certificate from a DESE approved PSL program or equivalent is also required based on DESE 2012 Standards for Administrator Preparation
  2. Current resume
  3. Copy of current Massachusetts Initial or Professional license appropriate for the licensure sought
  4. Evidence of passing scores on the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) Communication and Literacy Skills Reading and Writing Subtests (CLST)
  5. Letter of support from an authorized principal or central administrator for your participation in this program (no additional letter of recommendation accepted nor required.)
  6. Personal statement of your interest in school leadership and your vision for growing a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture in education
  7. Evidence of DESE SEI Endorsement (completion of the Curry College SEI course will be required if endorsement has not been completed by the start of the first semester)

The Curry College Principal Licensure Program combines theory and practice through its practicum-linked assignments.  Coursework and practicum include:

  • Change theory
  • Curriculum and instruction leadership
  • Data-driven assessment and planning
  • Teacher recruitment, supervision and evaluation
  • Law and policy
  • Community engagement
  • Successful school culture strategies

What is Cohort Study?

As a student in the Curry College PSL Program, you will be part of a cohort group. This means that the same students will be in all of your classes for the entire program, start to finish. Cohort group learning has proven to be very effective for adult learners because it creates a community of professionals who can study together, provide support, discuss common on-the-job problems, and offer networking opportunities.

Want to continue and earn your CAGS? At the completion of the PSL program take 4 additional classes to earn a CAGS in Educational Leadership.
