Supporting Students with Intellectual Disabilities to Promote Academic, Social, and Career Success

Curry Compass is a Transition and Postsecondary Program for Students with Intellectual Disabilities (TPSID) offered through the Neurodiversity Center for Excellence at Curry College. Compass provides individualized programs of study with a focus on transition-to-work, self-advocacy and determination, executive function, and independent living skills.

Curry Compass is a 2-year program which includes fall and spring academic semesters (August thru December and January thru May) that correspond with Curry College's academic calendar.

Who Is Compass For?

The Curry Compass program is designed for:

  • Students with intellectual disabilities eligible under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Students with documented intellectual disabilities who benefit from individualized academic and social supports.
  • Students seeking enrichment in academics, socialization, independent living, self-advocacy, and career development.

Academics
Students are full time for 2 years and receive a certificate upon completion. They audit Curry classes and may enroll in credit-bearing courses. Students also participate in skill-based, applied Compass courses focused on self-advocacy and transition-to-work skills.

Employment-focused Skill Development
Individualized career coaching, job fairs, internships, and work opportunities on campus and with community partners.

Individualized Supports
One-on-one coaching, advising, and Personalized Learning Plans (PLPs). Students collaborate with program staff to set individualized goals for their time in Compass. Mental health and learning specialist support included.

Community Integration
Inclusive, accessible events, peer mentorship, wellness workshops, family transition sessions, and residential experiences in an on-campus residence hall.
