Curry Connections Mentoring Program

Overview: Curry Connections

Curry Connections is a mentoring program designed to help students learn and prepare for professional life by connecting them with alumni working in a variety of industries. The program gives students the opportunity to explore career pathways through informational interviewing, networking, conversation, and observation. By generously volunteering their time, alumni mentors add great value to a student's education while helping faculty and administrators create more informed and well prepared Curry College graduates. The Process

The mentoring program is adaptable to the needs of individual participants. The extent of time contributed by mentors is dependent on availability and chosen level of participation. Upon registering for the program, mentors will have the ability to control how often they can be contacted by mentees and how they would like to be contacted (email or phone). Curry Connections is monitored by the Center for Career Development and the Alumni Relations Office. Mentors are encouraged to reach out to either office at anytime with questions or concerns.

About the Mentors

The role of the mentor is to help the student navigate through career options and help prepare them to enter into the professional world. Mentors will be expected to encourage, inspire, and support mentees by answering career questions, helping them explore career ambitions, and offering expertise in your area of work. Mentors must have completed their degree at Curry College and must be gainfully employed. About the Students

For the fall 2015 launch, we have chosen a specific sector of the student body to initially experience the program. Senior students who have maintained a grade point average of 3.0 or higher will have the opportunity to engage with mentors. Prior to having access to the Mentoring Program, students should have their resume reviewed and a preparatory appointment with the Center for Career Development.

SUGGESTED Activities for the Mentoring Relationship

  • Job Shadowing - Students spend a few hours or a day observing the mentor's daily work activities and routine, gaining a "real work setting" perspective for a potential career
  • Informational Interviews - Students meet with a mentor to discuss his/her occupation, roles, job functions, and obtain career advice and strategies
  • Mock Interviews - A live interviewing scenario is created, allowing students to gain formal interviewing experience
  • Phone or Email Contact - Mentors can be contacted for general career-related questions
  • Networking Event - Students attend an industry networking event with the mentor
