Criminology and Criminal Justice Professor Jen Balboni welcomed recent program alumni to her class, "College to Career Transitions," to talk about their pathways to professional success. Gianni Pisano, '23, Daphne Gomez, '25, Kyle Panas, '24, Nick Corso, '23, and Matt Klier '23 joined students to discuss their current professional roles in various areas of the criminal justice system.
An Associate Probation Officer, Pisano discussed how his internship through Curry was critical in landing his job with the court system. Both Gomez (Youth Services Specialist) and Panas (Sargeant, Lawrence General Hospital), who worked throughout their undergraduate experience at Curry, have moved up in their careers since graduation.
Corso and Klier, who both work as Law Enforcement (LE) Officers, discussed their respective journeys to becoming police officers and offered advice to our students on interviewing and preparing to work in an LE position.
All of the alums stressed that students should "go outside their comfort zone" in exploring different roles through internships, and to take advantage of the connections that Curry CCJ faculty provide-- include networking opportunities and facilitating introductions to professionals in the field.
Professor Balboni remarked, "We have the most amazing alumni who are always willing to come back and support our students! And because of the revised curriculum which builds career readiness and preparation, our alumni are prepared for their professional launch after graduation."
