Curry College was awarded a $495K grant from the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) to establish a cutting-edge Data Sciences Lab within the School of Business and Technology (SBT). The grant, announced today by the MLSC and Healey-Driscoll Administration, will position Curry College at the forefront of data analytics education in the region.
The new state-of-the-art lab will be instrumental in advancing SBT's core strategy of integrating business principles and technological innovation. It will provide students with unparalleled experiential learning opportunities, equipping them with the sophisticated data skills required for successful careers in the Commonwealth's booming life sciences sector. The facility will feature the latest in data visualization tools, high-performance computing, and AI-driven analytics platforms.
“We are immensely grateful to the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center for this historic investment in our students and our vision,” said Dr. Catherine McCabe, Dean of the School of Business and Technology. “This grant empowers us to create an ecosystem of innovation right here on campus. Our students will gain hands-on experience with the powerful tools and complex datasets that are driving discovery in the life sciences, ensuring they graduate as leaders prepared to solve the challenges of tomorrow.”
This initiative is the result of the dedicated efforts and collaborative vision of Dean McCabe and SBT faculty members Professor Shavi Cooray and Professor Salik Khanal, whose work was pivotal in developing the proposal and securing the award. The grant directly supports the school's commitment to developing a talent pipeline that meets the evolving needs of industry partners in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and medical technology. The award marks MLSC’s first grant to Curry College.
“These awards represent a critical investment in the next generation of life sciences talent in Massachusetts,” said MLSC President and CEO Kirk Taylor, MD. “By equipping schools with cutting-edge lab equipment and supporting industry-aligned training programs, we are providing students at every level with the tools and guidance they need to pursue meaningful careers in the life sciences.”
