Academic ExcellenceAbra Francois serves as the General Counsel at Curry College. In this role, she oversees and manages all legal matters impacting the College, providing strategic legal guidance to support the College’s mission and operations.
Abra joined Curry from Tufts University, where she served as Associate General Counsel. At Tufts, she advised university leadership on a wide array of complex legal issues, including labor and employment, civil rights, student accommodations, admissions, financial aid, institutional gifts, student affairs, athletics, threat assessment, medical malpractice, and collective bargaining. She also played a key role in guiding the university’s response to federal executive orders, regulatory actions, and agency directives.
Earlier in her career, Abra spent several years in federal service. She held positions at the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, where she ultimately served as a Supervisory Civil Rights Attorney and Compliance Team Leader. In that capacity, she led investigations and resolved federal civil rights complaints against higher education institutions. Prior to that, she worked at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of General Counsel, focusing on employment discrimination and civil rights. She began her legal career as an Assistant Corporation Counsel for the New York City Law Department, representing the City and its agencies in labor and employment litigation before state and federal courts.
Abra is a member of the Board of Trustees of EdVestors, a nonprofit organization dedicated to driving change in Boston Public Schools. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Simmons College and a Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School.
