Lisa M. Furtado, MS, RN, CHSE is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at Curry College with more than two decades of nursing experience spanning clinical practice, nursing education, simulation, and academic leadership. She is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator and has a particular interest in the use of simulation and competency-based learning to support the development of clinical judgment in nursing students.
Prior to joining Curry College, Furtado served as both an Assistant Professor of Nursing and Assistant Dean of Nursing at the Community College of Rhode Island. Her academic leadership experience includes curriculum development, program assessment, student success initiatives, clinical partnerships, and accreditation-related work. Her clinical background includes medical-surgical and oncology nursing, maternal-child health, nursing leadership, and clinical education.
Furtado is currently pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Nursing Education at Regis College, with an expected graduation date of May 2027. Her scholarly practice focuses on the use of learning-style-informed educational strategies to support metacognitive awareness and self-efficacy among undergraduate nursing students.
Furtado is actively involved in curriculum, educational outcomes, and simulation initiatives at Curry College and serves as Chair of the Simulation Advisory Committee. Her professional interests include nursing education, healthcare simulation, competency-based assessment, clinical judgment, student success, and evidence-based teaching practices.
