Giona is a first-generation scholar who joined the Sociology and Criminal Justice department at Curry College as an adjunct instructor in 2026. He previously served in the U.S. Navy for six years and then pursued undergraduate studies after his military service to earn a degree in Sociology and Political Science at the University of Rhode Island with a minor in French. He went on to a graduate program at the University of Massachusetts Boston, earned an M.A. in Applied Sociology in 2025, and is currently working towards a PhD in Sociology.

Giona has been recognized with awards for Academic Excellence in Sociology at both his undergraduate and graduate level institutions. His research interests focus on topics related to sports, gender and masculinity, sexuality, culture, race and ethnicity, and health. He has additional teaching experience at UMass Boston with Intro courses and Sociology of Culture.
