Please note that these descriptions are brief overviews and are not to be used to officially determine eligibility criteria for benefits entitlements.  Appropriate Summary Plan Descriptions for each benefit plan are available in the Office of Human Resources.

Curry College values the meaningful contributions of its employees and is committed to maintaining generous benefit offerings. Below is an overview of the Benefit Plans available to all benefit-eligible, full-time Faculty and Senior Lecturers.

The official plan documents serve as the final authority on benefits.

  • The plan year for health, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, accident, critical illness, hospital indemnity, and flexible spending is June 1 to May 31.
  • The Dependent Care Account plan runs from January 1 to December 31.

Benefits become effective on the first day of the month following your date of hire.

Health Insurance

Medical insurance is provided by Mass General Brigham Health Plan. The choice of medical plans within the Mass General Brigham Health Plan network are:

Complete HMO with Care Complement and Complete PPO Plus with Care Complement

The College provides individual and family health insurance coverage plans with a cost shared by the employee and the College. The plan year deductible is $2,000 for individual coverage and $4,000 for family coverage. The service areas include most providers in Massachusetts, some providers in New Hampshire and Rhode Island.

Health Reimbursement Account (HRA)

A Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) is an employer-funded account provided by Curry to assist with in-network deductible expenses. Employees are responsible for paying 50% of their deductible—$1,000 for individual plans or $2,000 for family plans. Curry covers the remaining 50%, contributing $1,000 for individual plans and $2,000 for family plans.

Dental Insurance

Curry offers two dental plans to employees through Delta Dental of Massachusetts:

Delta Dental Low Option Plan ($1,500 calendar year maximum) and Delta Dental High Option Plan ($2,500 calendar year maximum).

Both plans cover preventive services at 100%, basic services at 100% (after the annual deductible) and most major services between 50% to 80%. The College provides individual, and family dental insurance coverage plans with a cost shared by the employee and the College.

The annual deductible for individual plans is $100, and $300 for family plans. The plan’s deductible runs on a calendar year basis. We are in the Delta Dental PPO Plus Premier network, giving members access to one of the largest provider networks nationwide, helping minimize out-of-pocket costs.

Group Life Insurance

Curry College offers complimentary coverage equal to two times an employee’s annual base salary, rounded to the nearest $1,000, up to a maximum of $300,000. Additionally, the College provides Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage at no cost. Employees also have the option to purchase additional life insurance for themselves, their spouses, and dependents.

Travel Assistance

This service provides you, your spouse, and your dependents with pre-trip planning, emergency medical, and travel assistance services. Participants can access support when faced with an emergency while traveling internationally or when traveling domestically more than 100 miles from home, and eligibility requires enrollment in the College’s life insurance plan.

Long Term Disability

Provides disability income (70% of your monthly basic earnings to a maximum of $7,500 of scheduled monthly benefits) after 90 days of continuous disability. The College provides LTD insurance at no cost.

Flexible Spending Account

Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is a plan that allows employees to contribute up to the maximum allowable amount set by the IRS from their salary, pre-taxed, into an account from which you can pay for eligible out of pocket medical, dental, and vision expenses, prescriptions and select OTC products.

Dependent Care Assistance Plan

This account allows employees to reduce taxable salary to pay for dependent care expenses. The annual salary can be reduced by a maximum of $7,500  for qualifying dependent care expenses, such as preschool, summer day camp, before or after school programs, and child or adult daycare.

Voluntary Vision Insurance

EyeMed offers voluntary vision coverage, giving employees access to a robust national network that includes both retail vision chains and local, independent providers. This coverage includes comprehensive benefits for routine eye exams, prescription eyewear, and contact lenses, along with additional discounts on LASIK procedures and eyewear purchases beyond the covered benefits.

Voluntary Accident Insurance

Accident Insurance is a supplemental insurance designed to provide financial support in the event of a non-work-related accidental injury. It helps cover costs arising from accidents, which are often not fully covered by regular health insurance. This supplemental coverage ensures that individuals and families can more effectively manage the financial impact of unexpected accidents.

This plan includes a Health Screening benefit that provides $50 per covered member each calendar year for eligible screenings, such as an annual physical, dental exam, and certain lab tests.

Critical Illness Insurance

This coverage is employee-paid and pays a lump-sum cash benefit if you are diagnosed with a covered serious condition. The payment is made directly to you and can be used for medical expenses, living costs, or other bills. The plan offers different coverage tiers, with employee benefit amounts of $10,000, $20,000, or $30,000. Spouse coverage is set at 100% of the employee’s selected amount, while child coverage is 50% of the employee amount at no additional premium. Rates are based on age bands.

Hospital Indemnity Insurance

This coverage is employee-paid and available for you and your eligible dependents. It provides cash payments if you are admitted to the hospital due to illness or injury, helping offset the costs associated with a hospital stay and giving you the flexibility to use the funds where they are needed most. You must be actively at work with the College on the day your coverage takes effect. These benefits can help cover expenses such as hospital admission fees, transportation, lodging for family members, and recovery support services.

Pet Insurance

Pet Insurance provides a safety net for pet owners, ensuring they can afford the necessary medical care for their pets without undue financial hardship. Curry College offers Pet Insurance to all employees through the ASPCA. This coverage helps maintain the health and well-being of pets by making veterinary care more accessible and affordable.

Employee Assistance Program

Compsych is a free and confidential employee assistance program centered on helping employees work through life challenges that may affect job performance, health, and well-being. This program provides essential support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Defined Contribution 403B Retirement Plan

Voluntary contributions can be made by employees on a tax-deferred basis electing the investment options offered under Voya Financial Services upon hire.  For all faculty hired prior to 9/1/2024, the College will match the eligible employee's contribution up to the first 6% of their base salary upon completion of 1 year of service, or immediately with verification that 1 year of service and prior 403b eligibility has been met at another institution immediately prior to beginning at Curry.  An eligible employee's deferral of 1.0% to 6.0% will be matched with a 200% match from the College (yielding a maximum match of 12%).  Employee contributions of more than 6% are allowed, but the College match will only apply to the first 6% of an employee’s contribution.

For faculty hired after 9/1/2024, The College, subject to any limitations imposed by the Federal government, will contribute $2.00 for every $1.00 contributed by an eligible unit member, with the College's contribution not to exceed:

  • Assistant Professors and Instructors – 7% of the member’s regular annual salary.
  • Upon promotion or hiring to Associate Professors and Senior Lecturers – 9% of the member’s regular annual salary.
  • Upon promotion or hiring to Professors and Senior Lecturers + 10% – 12% of the member’s regular annual salary.

Educational Benefits

Full-time faculty and Senior Lecturers may enroll in all undergraduate and graduate Curry College courses on a tuition free, space available basis. Spouses, domestic partners, dependent children and independent children up to the age of 27 of Full-time faculty and Senior Lecturers who have three years of service may enroll in all Curry College undergraduate and graduate courses on a tuition-free, space available basis.

Tuition Exchange and the Council of Independent Colleges

The College participates in the Tuition Exchange and CIC/Tuition Exchange programs for undergraduate education of dependent children. These are a reciprocal scholarship program which can significantly lower higher education costs. Full-time Faculty and Senior Lecturers are eligible to participate in this program immediately upon hire. Neither program is a guaranteed benefit; final award decisions are made by the import institution (where the student is seeking a scholarship).

Full-time staff employees are eligible to enroll in an Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangement (ICHRA), which allows them to select their own health plan while the College contributes a set allowance toward the monthly premium, in some cases covering the full cost. This approach offers both flexibility and financial support for healthcare expenses. To enroll, employees must apply through the third-party administrator, Gravie, by the 23rd of the month.

Employees age 65 and older are required to enroll in Medicare, and the College will contribute toward their monthly premium. A dedicated Medicare expert is also available to help employees choose and enroll in the most appropriate plan.
