2020 was a year unlike any other in our College’s long history. Yet, despite the many challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Curry continued to advance with new and exciting programming, initiatives, and partnerships. Our students, faculty, and alumni also experienced unique success and showed their remarkable resilience this year. As we look forward to 2021, here are the top 20 stories from an unforgettable year.
- The College added new majors in Graphic Design, Computer Science and Marketing and a new minor in White-Collar Crime.
- The historic Cordage Park became the new home for the Plymouth campus.
- The pioneering Program for Advancement of Learning marked its 50th
- New state-of-the-art additions to campus include a ThinkTank design studio and new analytical instruments in the Science and Research Center.
- As coronavirus cases continued to tax local hospitals, Curry partnered with Tufts Medical Center to deploy senior nursing students to work as junior medical providers in support of the hospital's nursing workforce.
- Here’s to our young alumni: 95 percent of the Class of 2019 are employed, continuing their education, or active in volunteer or military service roles.
- Even a global pandemic can’t slow us down. Our students brought their A game this year as IT experts, business consultants, political analysts, and forensic researchers.
- The School of Nursing received a $105,882 Nurse Faculty Loan Program grant to support graduate students committed to becoming nurse educators.
- Students now have access to a unique emergency medical technician training program as part of Curry’s partnership with Transformative Healthcare.
- The Center for Career Development adopted leading job-search and networking platform, Handshake, which includes a network of more than 500,000 employers.
- Epidemiology students used this year’s outbreak as a real-time case study to learn the science of COVID-19 by studying the patterns of the virus and how that data informs public health programs and policies.
- Guest lecturers visited Curry classes from all over the world thanks to the now widespread practice of video conferencing. In February (pre-COVID), we also hosted Google Executive Don Batsford on campus.
- Faculty presented, published or were awarded on leading topics that include telehealth and race relations.
- Community college students are guaranteed admission as part of Curry’s participation in the Massachusetts Independent College Transfer Guarantee. Similarly, Massasoit students interested in earning their bachelor’s degree in business administration can attend Curry through a special transfer partnership.
