The Curry College community rallied together in 2021 to accomplish great things and make this year memorable despite the continuing pandemic. In classrooms, residence halls, performance venues, and on the ice, fields, and courts, our resilient students were learning, connecting, performing, and competing in person. Students, faculty, staff, and alumni happily came together once again for milestone events on campus, including a historic double Commencement weekend honoring the Classes of 2020 and 2021, and Homecoming and Family Weekend. Our students continued to land exciting internships and our graduates moved on to start their careers. The College continued to expand exciting programming, initiatives, and partnerships. As we look forward to 2022, here are the top 21 stories from another unforgettable year.
- The Class of 2020 and the Class of 2021 celebrated their extraordinary college experiences at two separate historic in-person Commencements. The College honored 689 graduates from the Class of 2020 in its 140th Commencement celebration on May 22nd. And then on May 23rd honored 687 graduates of the Class of 2021 at the 141st Commencement celebration.
- Able to gather on campus again, alumni, families, and friends celebrated Homecoming and Family Weekend together.
- The Women’s Ice Hockey team was more than ready for their inaugural season.
- Milton, home to Curry’s main campus, was ranked the safest college town in America.
- The Center for Global and Career Services helped our students find the perfect summer internships in their fields of study.
- The School of Nursing appointed Dr. Michelle McMahon as the new dean.
- Four standout female criminal justice alums paved the way for women in their field.
- Singer/songwriter Lisa Bello ’04 turned her self-discovery at Curry into an illustrious music career.
- Lights! Camera! Action! A new grant allowed theatre students to act in real-life clinical scenarios for nursing students.
- Curry partnered with Emory University in Atlanta to assist in a COVID-19 research study.
- The College added new minors in art therapy, critical inequality studies, finance, photography, and video gaming studies.
- Even in a pandemic, the Class of 2021 saw early job offers and acceptances to top choice graduate schools.
- Curry’s Accounting program repeated a 98% career placement rate for 2021 graduates.
- Curry and Quincy College partnered to offer bachelor’s degree program in criminal justice at Quincy College.
- Robust music and dance programming offered a creative outlet for students.
- Four athletic teams—Men’s Football, ‘07-‘08; Men’s Hockey, ‘03-’04; Women’s Basketball, ‘89-’90, and Women’s Soccer, ‘87-‘88—were inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame.
- A sportswriter in the making, Jesse Cinquini '22 covered a historic New York Knicks season.
- Nursing students helped administer vaccines at the Gillette Mass Vaccination site and the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
- Three criminal justice students published new work on racial violence in the U.S.
- A new Environmental Science Program launched this fall semester. The program offers programming in climate science, conservation, and environmental planning and policy.
- Accounting major Michael Pellegrini ’22 interned over the summer with Global Investment Manager MFS.
