Dr. Benjamin Hidalgo

Each year students are invited to apply for the Benjamin E. Hidalgo Community Engagement Award. The $1,000 award is for a current student who has demonstrated sustained, increased commitment to giving back through volunteering outside of Curry College. Some examples of community engagement that satisfy the criteria are:

  1. Alternative Spring Break in transformative experiences such as volunteering on a Habitat for Humanity project or at a special park in Florida that is 100% volunteer run and provides services for children with terminal illnesses and their families in a Disney environment;
  2. Numerous other activities to help those in need in a local community here in our area or at the student’s home base: an annual coat drive, Thanksgiving food drive for area food pantries, and an end-of-academic-year food, clothing, and furniture donation drive for people in need.

First-year students, sophomores, and rising seniors are eligible to apply. Self-nominations are welcome, although in such cases, the student should have an acknowledgment that the student intends to carry out the work from a faculty member or an administrator.

This award is in loving memory of Dr. Benjamin Hidalgo (Dr. Ben), assistant professor 2012-2014, and sponsored by his family.
