Dr. Jeffrey L. Carson is a faculty member at Curry College in the department of Sociology and Criminal Justice. In addition, Major Jeffrey L. Carson serves as an Assistant Professor at West Point Military Academy and has worked for the U.S. Department and U.S. Department of State.
Dr Carson enlisted in the military following high school and served at bases in Italy, Turkey, Africa, and Greece. Following his commissioning in 2004, he was branched as an Intelligence Officer. And in 2006, 1st Lieutenant Carson served in Mosul, Iraq for General David Petraeus and the campaign known as the “Surge”. In 2008, Captain Carson was embedded with the Afghan National Army (ANA) at an outpost in Baghlan, Afghanistan. For actions under enemy fire, Captain Carson was awarded the Bronze Star and Combat Action badge.
Dr. Carson joined the Center for Strategic and International Studies in 2009 to work and serve alongside Dr. Anthony Cordesman. During his time at CSIS, Dr. Carson published research of the Obama foreign policy in Afghanistan-Shaping Afghan National Security Forces. Following the publication, Dr Carson and Dr. Cordesman testified to the contents of the report to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Dr. Carson joined the U.S. Department of State in 2010 as a researcher and intelligence analyst. He has served at embassies in Baghdad, Iraq and Kabul, Afghanistan. In both posts, Dr. Carson worked in the Consular Affairs section and assisted in the adjudication of Special Immigrant Visa's.
Dr. Carson graduated from The University of Maryland, European Division with an Associate Degree in Art History. In 2004, Dr. Carson graduated with a bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from The Ohio State University. And in 2015, earned a Doctorate in Law and Policy from Northeastern University.
In 2019, Dr. Carson published a book, Promises Made, to highlight the resettlement of foreign nationals who work for and on behalf of the U.S. government. Dr. Carson is currently conducting research at West Point Military Academy with the goal to improve retention.
Dr. Carson is married and the proud father of Stella and Roman. In 2016, the Carson family founded Mi-Amore (mi-amore.org). The project is a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to recovering food, destined for disposal but completely edible, and reallocating to struggling families in their community. In 2018, the project recovered $16,500 in fair market value and is projected to recover $20,000 in 2019. Since inception in 2016, the project has recovered and reallocated over $46,000 in fair market value. In 2018, the Boston Globe covered the projects work and community action to helping those in need.
