Academic ExcellenceDr. Martha Sue Karnes Seago, Assistant Professor of Writing, earned a PhD in Rhetoric & Writing at the University of Texas at Austin in Spring 2023. Prior to completing her doctoral studies, she received a BA in English from Christopher Newport University and an MA in Professional Communication from Clemson University.
At UT Austin, Dr. Karnes Seago served as an Assistant Director of Lower Division Writing, Assistant Program Coordinator of the Writing Center, and taught courses in first year writing, visual rhetoric, and rhetoric of rap. She studies rhetoric of health and medicine (particularly relating to reproductive and sexual health), disability studies, and digital rhetoric. Her current scholarly project focuses on how people seeking treatment for sexual infections exercise rhetorical agency.
