Radio/Audio Production

Radio/Audio Production is a concentration of the Communication major

If you are interested in a radio/audio production concentration, you have the opportunity to follow in the path of alums who have studied broadcasting and audio at our college for over 80 years! Curry's radio broadcasting program is one of the oldest in the country, tracing its origin to 1932. Back then, Curry students arranged for a schedule of broadcasts over WLOE, the radio station at the Hotel Bellevue on Beacon Hill in Boston, where our student broadcast readings, plays, and impersonations.

Hands On Experience

You can be a part of the student-run team which operates WMLN-FM, our award-winning, non-commercial radio station on campus. Licensed by the Federal Communications Commission on April 1, 1975, WMLN-FM operates on an assigned frequency of 91.5 MHz with a power of 172 watts. WMLN serves a potential audience of 250,000 within a 40-mile radius on Boston's South Shore.

Most programs are produced by radio station students who earn credits for their participation. WMLN-FM is affiliated with the following professional organizations: NBC/CNN, Associated Press, Intercollegiate Broadcasters Association, Massachusetts Broadcasters Association, National Association of Broadcasters, and the New England Broadcasters Association.

WMLN-FM has won numerous news and sports awards over the years including multiple Associated Press awards and the prestigious "College Radio Station of the Year" honors.

Prepared for a Career in Broadcasting

Broadcasting and audio production careers are vast. You can be a radio disc jockey or cover sports play-by-play. Our students have used their audio skills to work on commercials and promotions or even do audio mixing for music productions, movies, and television series!
