A finance degree from Curry College provides our students with the skills to understand how financial decisions define and price the interactions between individuals, businesses, and asset markets. Students in the School of Business and Technology build a strong foundation in business analysis and critical thinking that prospective employers value. Finance Major Requirements and Learning Outcomes

A finance major allows students the flexibility to pursue different sectoral interests and career paths. Through hands-on coursework and specialized electives, students learn to evaluate opportunities, analyze information, and make informed financial decisions. Institutional networking and preparation resources are available to our students seeking to attain the CFA, SIE, Series 7, and other widely recognized credentials in the investment industry.

The Student-Managed Investment Fund (SMIF)

Step into the role of an investment manager directing real funds. Conduct sector research, evaluate ETFs and mutual funds, pitch asset-allocation strategies, and vote on live portfolio decisions while building career-defining connections through regional conferences and industry competitions.

Led by Curry students, the College and the School of Business and Technology recently launched this Student-Managed Investment Fund (SMIF) initiative. The College allocated $50,000 of its endowment to allow the select student “Managers” to make real investment decisions, conduct market research, and expand Curry’s network with the financial services industry and other academic institutions.

The newly-developed Curry College Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree offers our students the option to major in Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Management, Marketing and/or Sport and Recreation Management. Fast track your career – Finance students meet all prerequisites needed for Curry’s MBA program.

Students with a major in Finance will have the ability to:

  1.  Apply core financial concepts to evaluate financial information.
  2. Describe the structure of the financial markets and the roles of institutions in those markets.
  3. Demonstrate proficiency in using financial modeling tools and statistical methods to solve business problems.
  4. Communicate complex financial concepts clearly and concisely to various audiences.
  5. Assess ethical issues in financial practices and uphold professional standards.

The minimum laptop requirements for our majors are:

  • Windows 10 or 11 operating system
  • Minimum 64-bit Intel I-7 or 64-bit AMD Ryzen 7
  • Minimum quad core processor
  • Minimum 8 GB memory
  • Minimum 500 GB internal storage

NOTE: MacBooks and Chromebooks do not qualify.
