I chose Curry because I didn't just want to be a face in the crowd. I wanted to have those close-knit relationships with other students; I wanted to get to know my professors.

Biochemistry, the study of the chemical processes occurring in living organisms, is a broad field that offers a wide range of career options. The Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry degree is designed to provide a strong foundation in the chemical and biological sciences meeting standards set forth by the American Chemical Society (ACS). This program prepares students seeking careers in the life/health sciences professions (medicine, physician assistant, pharmacy, dentistry, and veterinary science), biochemical research and biotechnology. Curry College's location, just 7 miles from Boston, a major hub of the pharmaceutical industry, provides opportunities for meaningful internships and career options after graduation.

The Biochemistry program offers a solid scientific background and excellent opportunities for employment or continuing education in both graduate and professional schools. From 2010 through 2020, national job projections for biochemists show a 21% increase compared to an overall projected growth of 14.3% in all fields. The Biochemistry major provides a rigorous curriculum with an extensive hands-on approach to learning both in the laboratory and through internship experiences, preparing students interested in pursuing the following paths:

  • Medical School
  • Graduate School
  • Pharmaceutical Industry
  • Biochemical Research
  • Dental School
  • Physician Assistant Programs

Pre-Health Profession Studies

Students wishing to pursue a career as a physician, dentist, veterinarian, physician assistant, or other medical careers requiring an advanced degree should consider Curry's Pre-Health Profession Studies Program (This encompasses what are popularly called pre-med programs, pre-dental programs, etc). While not a major at any college, this program is designed to offer advice, guidance, and coursework to prepare students for a variety of career paths in medicine.

Exploratory Health Professions (EHP) Program

The Exploratory Health Professions (EHP) Program at Curry College is designed to help students interested in health services fields identify and pursue a major that will lead to internships and employment in the health care industry following graduation. Students selected for this program will take a common set of courses their first year and have the opportunity to participate in workshops and events throughout the year that assist with identifying strengths and interests and expose them to options in health related professions. At the end of the first year, EHP students will have the opportunity to declare their major and plan their pathway to graduation.

Science Scholars Program

This program offers a unique opportunity for students who share a commitment to academics and a passion for science.   Students joining the Science Scholars cohort will take science courses together, and those choosing to live on campus will be housed in our newest residence hall, Bell Hall, where you will have a Resident Assistant majoring in science, access to a classroom, individual, and group study spaces, and programming related to both your major and careers in the sciences. Apply Today!

An Experienced, Available Faculty

At Curry College our small class sizes allow for individual attention from all of our professors. Faculty members in the sciences have a wealth of teaching experience, both in lecture and laboratory formats, ensuring a positive teacher - student relationship.

Our faculty also have diverse interests in their fields, and many contacts with outside agencies, including medical institutions, environmental groups, businesses, and graduate schools. This allows our students to receive valuable experience outside the classroom in internships and when working on senior year research projects.
