Welcome to Curry!

First-Year Student Orientation Information

We are excited to officially welcome you into the Class of 2023 at Curry College! The Orientation staff has worked hard to create a comprehensive overnight program for all new students that will give you the tools to be successful at Curry College.

During the Orientation program, you will receive information on academics and student life while meeting other first year students and members of our faculty and staff communities. You will have the opportunity to stay overnight in one of our Residence Halls. Also during Orientation you will schedule fall courses and participate in fun and informative workshops that will prepare you for the transition to college.

You are expected to fully participate in all the programs during Orientation through the closing on Day Two. Please keep in mind that all college policies apply for the duration of the orientation program.

2019 First-Year Student Orientation Sessions:

  • Session 1: Wednesday, June 12 – Thursday, June 13
  • Session 2: Monday, June 17 – Tuesday, June 18
  • Session 3: Thursday, June 20 – Friday, June 21
  • Session 4: Tuesday, August 13 (Single Day Session Schedule)

We hold three, one and a half day long Orientation sessions in June and a single day session in August. During your Orientation session, you will meet with faculty members, upper class students and administrators while becoming familiar with our many campus resources. Orientation is a great way to start your college experience and meet some of your new classmates!

Parents are also welcome to attend the first day of Orientation (see schedule below) to learn more about the campus community. If you have any questions, please contact the First-Year Experience Office at fye@curry.edu.

Once you have submitted your non-refundable enrollment deposit, you should sign up for one of the three summer Orientation sessions.  The deadline for registering for an Orientation session is June 1.  To sign up for an Orientation session you will need to log in to the myCurry web portal and click the icon on the left hand side of your screen which reads "New Student Checklist". To access the web portal, you will need your username and password which was sent to you as part of your acceptance. If you are having trouble logging in or have misplaced your username & password you may contact the Admissions Office at 1-(800)-669-0686 or email adm@curry.edu.

Once you have signed up for an Orientation session you will receive a confirmation email to your Curry email account. It will be important to check your Curry account regularly as this is our main form of communication with our students. You can access your email by clicking on the email icon located on the left hand side of your web portal home page.

  • Laptops
  • Fans (the Residence Halls will be air conditioned)
  • Please do not bring any valuables with you.


Writing and Math Assessment

Students must complete their Writing and Math Assessment by June 1 in order to select courses during Orientation. You can check your New Student Checklist on the myCurry portal to see if you have completed these assessments.

Writing Placement

Complete the online Writing Placement Survey (Check back soon for link). The survey will ask you several questions to evaluate your writing abilities and attitudes about writing, then will describe the three first year writing courses available for incoming students, and finally will ask you which course you think is most appropriate for you, given your writing development. Must be completed by June 1.  For questions related to the Writing Placement Survey, please email Professor Lindsay Illich at lillich0511@curry.edu.

Family Orientation is a separate, one-day program from the student orientation in June. This program is an opportunity for families to address the questions and needs they may be facing as they prepare for their student to become a Curry College student. The program runs from 10:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Families will attend informational sessions about the transition their student and family will be facing within the upcoming year. The program also explores the resources Curry provides to create a positive experience for students both in and out of the classroom.

The Transfer Orientation program runs 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 15. During your Orientation session, you will meet with faculty members, upper class students and administrators while becoming familiar with our many campus resources. Orientation is a great way to start your Curry College experience and meet some of your new classmates!

International Student Orientation will take place on August 21, 2019 and August 22, 2019.

During the two-day Orientation program, you will receive information on academics and student life while connecting with other international students and members of the Curry College community.

There will also be sessions for parents and/or families to participate in throughout the two days.  These sessions will provide an opportunity to meet members of the Curry College community at large and specific departments that will be essential to your students’ success.

You will be assigned an Orientation Leader and meet with them throughout the program. OL's are a great resource for students and parents to ask questions and get information about life at Curry.

Parking

All cars will be directed to the Student Center Parking Lot to check-in. Students are permitted to leave their cars on campus overnight while attending Summer Orientation.
