Biology Curriculum (BS Degree)

The BS degree prepares students well for many careers within and outside of the sciences, including biomedical research, or for entry into graduate schools (Ph.D. programs) or professional schools and programs, such as medical, dental, physician's assistant, veterinary, pharmacy, nurse practitioner, or physical/occupational therapy. The BS degree is a rigorous program with much depth and a great deal of laboratory and research experience.

As a Biology BS major, students will fulfill all the coursework requirements for application to medical, dental, and veterinary schools. Interested students should consult with the Pre-Health Professions Advisor. The general requirements, as determined by the Association of American Medical Colleges, are: one year of biology, two years of chemistry through organic chemistry, one year of physics, one year of English, and one year of math (usually through Calculus). Individual schools vary. Students will also be expected to have taken the MCAT exam.  Requirements for PA (physician's assistant) programs are similar but somewhat different, and for NP (nurse practitioner) programs the requirements are quite different; students interested in these post-baccalaureate tracks should also consult with the Pre-Health Professions Advisor.

Meet Dr. Jessica Fry - Biology / Biochemistry

Dr. Jessica Fry is an Assistant Professor of Biology at Curry College, teaching biology and biochemistry majors. An important part of Dr. Fry's work at Curry includes getting her students familiar with research, which includes the study of cancer cells.  Dr. Fry's favorite thing about teaching at Curry?  Watch the video

Pre-Health Profession Studies

Students wishing to pursue a career as a physician, dentist, veterinarian, physician assistant, or other medical careers requiring an advanced degree should consider Curry's Pre-Health Profession Studies Program (This encompasses what are popularly called pre-med programs, pre-dental programs, etc).
