Pathways to Public School Education

Students pursuing a path to teaching in a public school setting can choose from the following majors. These programs prepare students to work with children and their families in public school setting and require completion of the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL).

Pathway in Community Education

The Community Education major prepares students to work with children and their families in a variety of community based educational settings and require completion of the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL).

Applied Behavior Analysis

Curry College offers a track within the Special Education major in Applied Behavior Analysis, leading to a national credential as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT).  In a formal partnership with Boston Public Schools, this track prepares Curry students as Special Education Paraprofessionals, who teach and support both an academic and life skills curriculum all in the context of facilitating the development of behavioral and emotional skills.

This Dual-Degree Program for future public school educators features the opportunity to earn an appropriate bachelor's degree in Education and a Master of Education degree in five years, plus two teaching credentials.

Education Resource Center

Consult with faculty in the Education Resource Center to develop a lesson plan, research a topic, preview materials for student teaching field practice, and create visual displays and presentations.

Students Showcase Research, Creativity, and Passion at Annual Academic Forum

 Over 70 students proudly presented their scholarly achievements and creative projects at the annual Academic Forum held in Katz Gymnasium. The Academic Forum highlights a diverse array of student-led projects, ranging from scientific research and graphic design to studies in the media. Under the guidance of faculty mentors, students presented their work through posters, presentations, and digital displays.

Teaching for Change: Melanie Bohane’s Commitment to Empowering Students with Special Needs

 Throughout her childhood, Melanie Bohane '19, M.Ed. '20 struggled to find the motivation needed to complete her academic tasks. It wasn’t until two of her high school teachers saw her potential beyond her grades, that she began to feel empowered in her education. In those moments, Melanie was inspired her to pursue a career in teaching, with the goal of providing others with the same kind of guidance and understanding.
